We have all been there, the chewed phone cords, missing TV remote and just before we go out, we find a chew mark in our favourite pair of shoes. So what do we do during the challenging periods of puppyhood? This week we had a chat to celebrity vet and trainer Dr. Claire Stevens to share her top tips!
Dr. Claire Stevens puts a few things into perspective for us - "It's a natural response to teething, exploration and boredom. Dogs don't know the difference between shoes and chew toys. It's the owners responsibility to keep items they do not want chewed out of reach of puppies.
Provide alternative things to chew, an enriched environment, keep them occupied and direct their behaviour to things they are allowed to play with and chew. The Enrichment range from Stylish Hound has many great products to redirect your pups attention from chewing shoes. The Snuffle Mats from this range can provide hours of entertainment, simply hide dry food inside and watch them sniff out their treats. These are also great when you're super busy and need to keep your dog occupied!"

① Remove everything of value around the house that they might want to chew on once they start exploring and teething – shoes, electrical cords, TV remotes (a favourite chew toy), decorative items from the coffee table and food from the lower shelves of the pantry.
② Roll away any heirloom Persian rugs while your pup is toilet training and provide a variety of their own toys for chewing because his chewing period can go on until he is at least a year old.
③ Provide alternative things to chew, an enriched environment, keep them occupied and direct their behaviour to things they are allowed to play with and chew.
My book is dedicated to my childhood dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Sasha. She inspired my entire career thus far, including my book ♡
The Hercules Chew Toys from Stylish hound are perfect for your puppies chewing and can be filled with your pups favourite treats. The small hole in the Hercules Chew Toy stops pup from accessing the food inside too fast so they will spend hours trying to get it out. Bonus tip, slather in coconut oil or peanut butter to make it even more exciting
The Snuffle Mats from this range can provide hours of entertainment, simply hide dry food inside and watch them sniff out their treats. These are also great for when you don’t have the energy or time to play and need them to stop hassling you!
